Les and Murray MacPhie will speak to the design and construction of the Canso Causeway and the Nova Scotia Community College Strait Campus (Nautical Institute) will provide a demonstration of their simulator.

Join us as we "visit" the colourful past and present of the Canso Causeway and Strait Area in a unique production of music, poetry, dance and more - all inspired by or related to the Causeway.The Ceilidh wil include fiddlers Buddy MacMaster, Jackie Dunn MacIsaac and Dougie MacDonald; Gaelic singers Jeff MacDonald and Rita Rankin MacDonald; Acadian performer Delores Boudreau; pipers Anthony MacEachern and Harold Joseph MacDonnell; and singer-songwriters Cyril MacPhee from St. Peter's, Mulgrave's Gary Williams, Carl Bond from Canso and Bobbie Currie from Sydney.

Re-enactment Ceremony - 2:00 pm - Canso Causeway & Canal
A Re-enactment of the 1955 opening of the Causeway, featuring a procession of 1955 era antique cars, a march of hundreds of pipers, and a formal Re-enactment Ceremony.

Pipers' & Drummers' Social - 4:00 pm - Port Hawkesbury Waterfront
A gathering exclusively for the pipers and drummers who participated in the Re-enactment march.

The Golden Gala Concert - 8:00 pm - Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre
A once-in-a-lifetime concert of Cape Breton music and comedy to commemorate the Anniversary of the Canso Causeway. Featuring some of the Island's finest performers, including Raylene Rankin, Bruce Guthro, The Barra MacNeils, Beolach, The Cottars, Bette MacDonald, Maynard Morrison, the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association, former members of the Summertime Revue, General John Cabot Trail, pipers, drummers, a mass choir and more!

Back to the 50’s Dance - 10:00 pm - The Creamery, Port Hawkesbury
Travel back in time to the 50's when the Causeway was constructed to dance the night away to the music of The Automatics. Particpants are encouraged to dress the part so bring back your poodle skirts and ducktails!

Golden Flotilla Parade of Boats - Dusk - Strait of Canso
A spectacular display as boats light up and parade from Port Hawkesbury to the Causeway and over to Mulgrave. The Bluenose II will lead the procession.

Fireworks - Dusk - Strait of Canso
A brilliant display of fireworks to complete the Anniversary.

Flotilla Reception - 10:30 pm - Port Hawkesbury Waterfront
A gathering for the Flotilla boating participants.

* The Great Atlantic Tugboat Square Dance will be held during the anniversary week. Because this activity is dependant on pleasant weather, a date and time will be confirmed closer to the actual anniversary week.
