| | | Hi again,Ijust read my short note(ha,Ha).I guess I was really lonesome that night.I apoligize for all my errors.I don't use computer often. My brother John was down to the gathering and had a wonderful time.He said that since I was so much younger ,there were more of my age friends around. He went to visit Carson Hogan ,who I failed to rememge-but he organized so many things for us sqare dancing, etc. Now me ,even though I talk a lot,I would never have the nerve tojust call or visit anyone,so losing out. By the way,in my request about hearing from people -it should read friends not friend -don't want any coded messages here. thanks to all the people that made the reunion possible, unfortunely it was too late for me Maybe next time with e-m.ail we could be on mailing list Eileen MacGillis (Brown) (billandeileen@hotmail.com

| | | As chair of the Canso Causeway Anniversary Society I want to personally thank everyone who participated and volunteered to ensure the 50th Anniversary celebrations were a success. I think we appropriately demonstrated our emotional link to the Causeway and proved our community can host a significant event for Nova Scotia. A special thank-you to all who travelled great distance to share your memories.
More than 600 pictures of the event have been posted at http://www.1015thehawk.com/photos.asp
Enjoy.
If you have digital pictures or video to share with us, please contact me. We are attempting to properly catalogue this event for future generations...especially for the committee who will attempt to top our event in 50 years. Can we expect you there????
Sincerely,
Bob MacEachern

She was 2m0nths old. That was 36 years ago.My daughter also took us down to Cape Breton what a party. Adeline's two children and her grandaughter arrived as well Oh, it was so much fun. THEN as we got closer to the "Causeway" my daughter put on pipeband music and we new we were on our way home .When we were on the causeway she put down the windows and cranked the music. The tears came then. You know every time we go home to Sydney C.B. we always do the same thing. Sometimes the Rankins play us across.WELL,Friday Night going to the pipeband concert and seeing the girls from "The Gaelic College Pipeband"was heaven. Then when George Fraser got up to play for the dancers I thought I died and went to heaven.George is#1 in my books.WE went back to ourcabin and George played a tune or two.It was so nice. Adeline and I went to bed early we had to be ready for the big day. WELL to see the rest of the girls was so exciting. You all look so beautiful.Frankie I want to know how you stay so young? | | | Thanks for the memories. The highlight of the 50th anniversary was seeing our former band members that were able to attend. It was like old times being together. It felt as though we hadn't been apart for all those years. There is a bond amonst our band members that few people experience in a life time. The years we spent in the Gaelic College Band have given us all memories of our youth that are precious. All of us remember the last day of summer school in St. Ann's and the tears that were shed at the end of each summer as we went our separate ways. Our band had representatives from all over Cape Breton Island but we were a close-knit family in all that we did. we travelled all over the east coast of Canada and the eastern seaboard of United States. We played for Royalty and Presidents and for benefits for those in need. we always felt verry honoured to parade on November 11, with our War Veterans. Even when it was very cold, snowed, or rained, there never was a complaint from a band member on those occassions. Many of us came from poor families and our parents sacrificed a lot to give us every opportunity to be in the pipe band. We are grateful to them and keep them in our prayers always. It was wonderful to be back together for this event. Keep in touch. Anne Jackie Oram MacDonald jr-jmacd@sympatico.ca
